Amelia Fielden

          above our boat
          a swallow frolicking
          dives and soars ---
          how will I, wingless
          express this happiness

          a new bird sings
          in our friends' old garden
          as we take tea
          flattering each other
          none of us has changed

          my train passes
          a close-mown sports' field
          shimmering
silver in a net of dew ---
          forget about forever

          each morning
          it flourishes along the fence
          star jasmine
          planted there where
          you said it wouldn't grow

          the morning
          of my departure
          making love
          mind and body acting
          quite separately

          after the storm
          a rainbow of lorikeets
          upside down
          supping on nectar
          from orange grevilleas

          in smooth troughs
          between the wave peaks
          cormorants
          disappear reappear ---
          can I learn acceptance

           the silver glow
           of cherry blossoms
           at twilight
           poem after poem
           opening in my mind
